MappaBergamo, Baptistery

Built in 1340 (fourteenth century), it was designed by Giovanni da Campione (who also designed the portal of Santa Maria Maggiore), to be placed inside the basilica, and was then moved from its original place in 1660.
An elegant structure with an octagonal plan, it takes the form of the Florentine baptisteries, but refines them using decoration with a Gothic-Lombard flavour typical of Giovanni da Campione's architectural style.
The interior still has the original fourteenth structure. The baptismal font is also by Giovanni da Campione.
