Bergamo, Church of San Bartolomeo
The church of San Bartolomeo dates back to the first half of the 17th century and was designed by Anton Maria Caneva. The imposing Baroque facade was completed only in the 19th century due to the continuous reworking to the building. Although simple, the church has elegant and stately lines thanks to its 60 metres length and 14 metres width. Works of art by Mattia Bortoloni and Gaspare Dizioni are preserved inside. Worth seeing are also the decorations of the apse and the inlays in the 16th century wooden choir, as well as the “Martinengo altarpiece”, i.e. the famous Madonna with Child and saints painted by Lorenzo Lotto in 1516.
