Moniga del Garda

A Valtenesi tourist locality, situated in a dominant position over Lake Garda.It is a farming centre that is well-known for its wines, both "chiaretto" and "rosso".As with other villages in the Valtenesi, the oldest part ofMoniga is formed by the Castle, with an imposing crenellated defensive wall, constructed in the Medieval period,on a hilly area cultivated with olive groves. Some cylindrical look-out towers at the corners,and one at the centre, dating from the XV century, modified as a bell tower,protect the interior of the fortified centre, consisting of old housing which iscriss-crossed by parallel streets.The residential area extends across the plainuntil it reaches the lake. Moniga is recognised as one of the most characteristic localities in Valtenesi. The ancient buildings in the centre,and its narrow streets, run down to the lake, where there is a small port with equipped beaches, ideal for tranquil holidays amid a wealth of tasty local products. In July, the Rassegna del Chiaretto and the Olio d'Oliva is an enogastronomic appointment which simply must not be missed, constituting the most important of lakeside festivities.
