Mezzegra
Mezzegra is a scattered commune with its administrative centre in the hamlet of Azzano, looking out over the western shores of Lake Como, a few kilometres tothe south of Tremezzo. The communal territory ranges from206 m in altitude at Azzano, to 1700 m in the more isolated hamlets, which can be reached following a tightly winding road. In the hamlet of Giulino the Parish Church of S. Abbondio is also worth visiting, a beautiful sacred seventeenth century building, with a cupola frescoed by Giulio Quaglio. Alongside, in the priest's house and the sacristy, traces can be seenof the previous romanesque church, dating from the XII century.Typical of the location is the Sagra del Missoltino (which is heldin mid September), a traditional festivity dedicated to that comasca gastronomic speciality par excellence: the "missoltini" i.e. twaite shad fish, salted and driedin the sun, which are warmed up and enjoyed by all those present. On Christmas Eve a large bonfire is lit, and cakes and vin brulè are distributed toparticipants.
