Crema

MappaCrema

In the heart of Upper Cremonese and to the right of the river Serio, Crema still retains much evidence of its past within the circle of its Venetian city walls from 1488. Positioned on a natural terrace, the Insula Fulcheria on Lago Gerundo, the town presents a compact centre of medieval buildings.
Visitors should definitely stop in front of the Cathedral, of gothic-lombardic style, then visit the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall), the Torrazzo and the Palazzo Pretorio, symbolic of the greatness of the 16th century town, and also the Palazzo vescovile and its precious paintings, Palazzo Bondenti, the biggest of the palaces in Crema, the ex Convent of S. Agostino and various other precious monuments which are too many to list here. If, on the other hand, you are interested in the traditions of Crema, we would recommend the ancient Fair of S. Maria della Croce in March, or the Feast of the patron saint, S.Pantaleone in September; finally, you should not miss a taste of the local cuisine, which offers tasty delicacies such as tortelli cremaschi and bertolina, a traditional home-made dessert.
