Crema, Town Hall

MappaCrema, Town Hall

The palace was built in the 16th century during the dominance of the Republic of Venice, according to the stylistic principles of the Venetian Renaissance. The elegant Palazzo Comunale is located on the west side of the Piazza del Duomo and is harmoniously situated between the Palazzo Pretorio and the Torrazzo.
The two upper floors seem to rest without weight on the columns of the portico, a succession of round arches framed by vaulting in terracotta and by columns in white marble with Corinthian capitals, a Byzantine element taken from the Venetians. Of the two orders of windows on the façade, the first consists of tall rectangular windows surrounded with white. The second order is enlivened by low reliefs and two mullioned windows with rectangular frames that include a round mullioned window.
