Pizzighettone, Church of Saint Bassiano
The Church of San Bassiano in Pizzighettone is a perfect example of overlapping styles and recovery measures. The church, which dates back to the 12th century, was reconstructed in the Gothic period and rebuilt inside during the Renaissance. The gabled façade has two buttresses, which are surmounted by pinnacles, step cusps that make up the fillets below the eaves and a rose in Gothic style with a splayed frame.
Inside the Church, one can admire reliefs of the Annunciation, the Nativity and the Epiphany, which can all be attributed to artists of the Campione school (half of the 14th century). A large fresco on the Crucifixion by Bernardino Campi is to be found on the opposite wall.
