lecco, Lecco
Lecco is surrounded by imposing peaks and valleys spotted with old towns. Here the lake spreads out in an ample basin dominated by the bastion of the Grigne, by the San Martino and by the unmistakable crest of the Resegone, mountains much loved by Stendhal, Manzoni and Stoppani. Where the basin narrows, river Adda picks up back its course. A number of valleys also debouch in the city, Valsassina to the north and Valle San Martino to the south-east. Located in a bay, Lecco has been attracting writers, scientists and painters for centuries, thanks to the completeness of its nature, starting with Leonardo who, after having surveyed the geological features with a view to digging a navigable canal connecting the Lambro, delighted himself in sketching the Grigne and even the Lecco basin itself. The city welcomes tourists with the proposal on the “Manzoniano” itinerary following the steps of the literary inspiration of the great novelist. We recommend a stroll to visit these places that tradition has set as background of The Betrothed. The small but interesting old city centre maintains the walls and the moat which once surrounded the medieval village and a bridge dating from the 14th century.
The mountain and valley area includes the territory developing around the lake: Valsassina, Valvarrone, Valle San Martino and Val D’Esino are the valleys which raise up from the plain and that still preserve lands and villages, mountains and woods. The area has got remarkable natural qualities and a big attractive capacity: here the context of nature identifies with man’s presence, and it is pleasant to walk along the itineraries of faith or visit the museums about environment. Here nature is unspoiled, the colors are beautiful, the air fresh and scenarios are exciting. Each season of the year offers several opportunities for practicing sport activities: ski-touring, cross-country skiing, hiking, climbing, paragliding and mountain bike.
The area located South of Lecco is characterized by morainal lakes surrounded by undulating grounds and slight slopes. This area, called Brianza, presents a soft alternation of hills and plain and it is near to the main airports and highways. This part of the territory points out a marked vocation for business tourism, favored by the presence of a lively entrepreneurial activity. The stay during a business journey can be enriched by moments of enhancement of free time in which there will be the chance to practice golf, horse riding, cycling and walking in big parks. The presence of imposing noble villas located in enchanting landscapes, of sacred buildings, botanical gardens and sites of industrial archaeology is outstanding from an artistic point of view.
