VERSIONE ITALIANAGO TO THE MAPHELPPOINTS OF INTEREST

Imbersago, Leonardo Ferry

MappaImbersago, Leonardo Ferry

This ingenious machine is unique along the entire run of the Southern part of River Adda, a silent witness of all the other now disappeared, though their presence remains in the memory of historic maps and treaties buried in the archives. The ferry slips on the surface of the rippled water, securely attached to the rudder in the direction of the bisector of an angle, the only noise is the sound of the slight rotating cylinder of wire stretched between the two sides. Here physics is paired with the practice of representation of the human mind that, in very different eras, discovered that the force of nature could be exploited for human benefits.
Ferrys like the one we see here, could be once found in Brivio, Paderno and Trezzo, as an important way of transportation and communication between shore and shore; assets of peaceful and industrious habits among different populations; means to exchange culture, customs and trade and to transport people during religious rituals and festivals.
