Lodi, Palazzo Vistarini
Palazzo Vistarini looks out on the Piazza della Vittoria, and belonged to the Vistarini family, one of the most importanti of Lodi, represented by captains of the militia, magistrates and important landowners in the region.
The palace once ran from the Piazza della Vittoria to the beginning of the present Corso Vittorio Emanuele. For political and financial reasons, the palace was acquired by a relative of the Vistarini, Giovanni Paolo Barni, who used the part in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele for his own residence, restoring it, and leaving the structures of the old palace untouched, in the part which looks over the western corner of the Piazza.
The facade is in brick, relieved by ceramic windows and Gothic arches in the portico beneath.
From its former splendour there remain some frescos in the vault and the portico, which still maintain the original height of the ceiling, which, by decree of the citizen-decurions, had to be sufficient to allow the passage of a man on horseback.
Currently the palace is given over to private residences.
