Lodi, Piazza della Vittoria
The historic heart of the city up to the communal period, the attractive Piazza (also known as the Piazza Maggiore), is still today its most important meeting place. Uniform buildings define it on all sides, except the fronts of the Duomo and the Palazzo Comunale. In particular the porticos around them are the most typical of the Po valley region. To the left of the cathedral we find the 18th century facade of the town’s loggia, at the base of which there are busts of Gneo Pompeo Strabone, the Roman consul who founded “Laus”, and Frederick Barbarossa, who founded new Lodi.
