Goito

MappaGoito

The town of Goito was founded by the Romans as a defensive settlement at the beginning of the 2nd century B.C. Located near the via Postumia, heading towards Cremona, the fortress was built on the shores of the Mincio River. At some later stage, the Goths settled down on its ruins in the 5th century. Goito historical centre is today located inside the ruins of the rectangular fortress, which dates back to the Goth period. The town plan is clearly of Roman origin. In the area of the Goito municipality, which is inside the protected area of the Mincio Park, interesting places from a landscape and naturalistic point of view can be visited.
