Marmirolo, Natural Preserve Bosco della Fontana
This biogenetic oriented natural preserve is managed by the State Forest Corps and is located north of Mantua. It was identified as an area to be protected and preserved, in that it represents the last testimony of the ancient broadleaf forests that once covered the Po Valley. In addition, the preserve is inhabited by over 102 species of birds, 24 species of mammals, 9 reptile species, 8 amphibian species and more than 2,000 species of invertebrates. The hunting lodge of the Gonzaga family (Palazzina di caccia Gonzaghesca) - with its adjacent naturalistic library – can be visited only on request.
