MappaMilano, Marino Palace

The name comes from a Genova banker Tommaso Marino, who commissioned the project from 1553 to 1558 to Galezzo Alessi. The courtyard is profusely decorated with statutes, ornaments, and trophies. The ground floor contains the "sala dell'Alessi" with its picturesque decorations and plastering, which was heavily restored after the second world war.
The palace is now home to the Town Council of Milan (the Mayor's offices, as well as those of the Deputy Mayor, Council Presidency, Secretary General and General Management).
According to the legend Marianna de Leyva, best known through the skillful pen of the Italian writer Manzoni like the "Monaca di Monza" was born in the palace in 1575.
