Milano, Pinacoteca Brera
The Pinacoteca di Brera was initially conceived as a teaching section of the Accademia di Belle Arti and was promoted to Galleria Nazionale in 1809. Its collection is made up essentially of religious art, which was sequestered following the suppression of religious orders. Among the pieces worth mentioning are the "Crucifiction" by Bramantino, the "Wedding of the Virgin" by Raphael, and the "Madonna with Child" by Gentile Bellini. There are also works by Rubens, Joardens, Van Dyck and Rembrandt, the famous "Dead Christ" by Mantegna, important works by Correggio, Pietro Longhi, Tiepolo, Canaletto and Fattori, as well as the "Supper at Emmaus" by Caravaggio and many works by Francesco Hayez.
