Lomello
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore is a building in Romanesque-Lombard style. It was built between 1025 and 1040 in the area of a pre-existing early Christian temple and has a Latin cross plan with a nave a two side aisles: the nave has a lacunar ceiling, while the asymmetric side aisles show a groined vault. Worth seeing is the crypt behind the main altar, which can be accessed through a staircase and whose structure clearly shows the presence of a previous Church, where Queen Teodolinda was said to have married the Lombard Kind Agilulf.
The Baptistery of San Giovanni ad Fontes is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and has an octagonal plan with small semi round apses. The old christening font in hexagonal shape is inside in the middle of the Church and enabled those, who were being baptised, to be entirely immersed in it, as was done in the past.
Near the font, fragments of a funerary stone are still visible.
