Sant'Alessio con Vialone, Oasis of Sant’Alessio

The Oasis of Sant’Alessio has been created for the wellbeing of the animals and the plants living inside it.
In order to respect them and fully enjoy the oasis, visitors must accept to consider themselves almost as intruders and to move tiptoeing inside the entire garden.
In the oasis, which is to be seen as a temple devoted to wildlife, spaces and the entire outfitting have been thought with the aim of eliminating or at least minimizing the impact of artificial elements on nature, also aesthetically. The life and behaviour of various species of birds can be watched here. The oasis is a unique place, as direct bird watching does not influence the tranquillity of the birds thanks to the approach adopted, which is suitable also for the least expert watchers. A number of bird species have been reintroduced in nature from the oasis, for example: peregrine falcons, white storks, stilt-birds, wild geese and hermit ibises. The oasis has specialized in the breeding of ornithofauna, with a series of animals including mammals, reptiles, fish and insects. Mammals include sloths, marmosets (small monkeys from South America) and beavers. In the oasis greenhouses one can watch tropical butterflies flying about the many plants, which aim at recreating the forest environment of the tropics.
The oasis is the ideal place for everybody, especially for young visitors. These will find an interactive museum at their disposal, where they can get the first important notions on the history of the place, the life of the species that can be found there and much more information.
The Oasis of Sant’Alessio can now be visited after the request by the Italian Association for the Protection of Birds LIPU in 1994.
