Oramala

From the village of Varzi and looking to the north, one can sight the shape of the mighty Castle of Oramala, which makes a display to great effect surrounded by oak and chestnut woods. This manor-house was certainly the first dwelling of the powerful Malaspina family.
The over two-metre thick walls and the semi round shape, which faces the nearby hill, where the artillery could be placed, is unmistakable evidence that both the tower, and the castle were built and strengthened on the basis of military criteria.
The strong fortress remained the property of the Malaspina family until the end of the 18th century and was then abandoned; then the entire structure of the fortress started to gradually crumble.
In 1985, the Panigazzi brothers, i.e. the current owners of the fortress, began the reconstruction of the fortress with the aim of preserving a building, which has contributed to make history among these valleys.
