Torricella Verzate, Via Crucis and the Holy Staircase

MappaTorricella Verzate, Via Crucis and the Holy Staircase

This is a beautiful parish church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary; on its churchyard it is possible to see the 14 chapels of the Way of the Cross (Via Crucis): the episodes of the Life of Jesus take on a particular charm, because they are represented by wonderful, life-size polychrome-plaster statues.
Also note the bell tower, whose upper part is Baroque.
A square-plan tower is still visible today, known as “Torre dei Saraceni” (Tower of the Saracens), probably built to commemorate the Crusades.
The Holy Staircase is also important; it was built in the 19th century on sand that had been transported from Palestine.
