Known in the sports world as the "Scala Theatre" of Soccer, the Milan stadium was inaugurated on September 19th, 1926. The complex, four stands all on one floor with a seating capacity of 35000 people, was owned by the Milan soccer team, since the Milan President, P. Pirelli encouraged and financed its construction. In 1955, the Municipality of Milan bought the stadium and approved a first enlargement based on the joining of the curved parts and on a slight raising of the stands, to obtain a seating capacity of 55000 people. The second improvement was made right after World War II: the idea was of creating a stadium for 150000 people and works begun to build a second floor, with an upper tier. The project, however, was reduced to 85-90000 seats. On the occasion of the World Soccer Championship Italia '90, another floor was built and the stadium was totally covered. Today the stadium comfortably seat 85000 supporters indoor. Only the field remains uncovered.
