The natural park of Orobie Valtellinesi is run by the union of the interestedmunicipalities and mountain communities and Sondrio Province.
It covers a surface of ha.44.000, including the whole Valtellina slope ofOrobie alps.
The very interesting (from the landscape and naturalistic points of view)north slope of the park extends from Mount Legnone, located on the slopesof the east shore of north Como lake, as far as Campovecchio valley andMount Sellero (m.2743 above sea level) and includes the charming Tartano,Madre, Venina and Belviso valleys with the homonymous pass. The mountainsreach 3050 m. above sea level with Pizzo Coca, lying on the boundary withthe Bergamask part of the Park.
In the past the Medieval "via mercatorum", going along the valley bottomvillages, was very important for the trades between Valtellina and Bergamoand Brescia territories. On this way Venetians built Priula road, joiningthe Bergamask slope to the Valtellina one by Morbegno.
The historical vicissitudes of the area brought on the foundation ofdifferent rural civilizations. In middle Valtellina you can see thetypical "culundei", buildings standing around a closed yard with attachedstalls and barns.
