Chiesa in Valmalenco
Valmalenco begins north of Sondrio, entering the Alpine range with the Mount Disgrazia and Pizzo Bernina groups of mountains. The Chiesa area owes its name to an ancient sacred building built around 1000 AD. Once an important transit station, Chiesa in Valmalenco now is a leading mountain holiday resort, which boasts modern and avant-garde infrastructures. Its ski lifts are on the western slopes of the Sasso Alto (2336 metres) and extend around the Alpe Palu'. The many cross-country runs are all to be found at the San Giuseppe resort and complete the offering of one of the most attractive and enchanting ski resorts of the Lombardy Alps.
