Morbegno
Morbegno is situated in the Gerola Valley, at a point where Lake Bitto flows into the Adda. Its position has always had great economic importance, especially since the middle of the 17th century, when Via Priula was opened. It connected Valtellina with the Venetian republic. In fact the majority of common and religious buildings that embellish the village date back to the XVII and XVIII century. To enjoy Morbegno we advise you to take a walk through the alleys of the old town, full of typical shops, frescoes, beautiful stoned portals and wrought-iron balconies, as well as a visit to the Collegiate Church of "S. Giovanni Battista", valuable for its 18th century façade. The tourists who want to learn about the customs and habits of this place can go to the Bitto Show in October, where the characteristic "pezzotti", carpets made in Valtellina, together with other typical products of local traditional handicraft linked to wood, wrought iron and stone working are displayed. During the show you can also discover more about the characteristics of this area, such as the Valtellina "bisciola", mushrooms and chestnuts and especially cheese ("malga, latteria and bitto"), from the Gerola Valley.
