Path of the Upper Way of the Valmalenco
The Path of the Upper Way of the Valmalenco (Sondrio) is a charming path in the heart of the Retic Alps that connects numerous high-altitude refuges. Defined the first “high road” of the Alps with a cultural orientation, it winds between 1000 and 3,182m above sea level (Punta Marinelli) offering breath-taking views. The track is not composed of a single way, but of around 130km of paths close to the main mountains of the Valmalenco: the Disgrazia, the Bernina and the Scalino. In particular, the Bernina is the only 4,000m-high mountain that does not belong to the Western Alps. Improvement routes, shortcuts and loop trails allow hiking at all levels. From Torre S. Maria, the Upper Way passes the refuges Bosio Galli, Gerli Porro, Del Grande Camerini, Longoni, Lago Pelù, Carate Brianza, Marinelli Bombardieri, Bignami and Cristina.
