Sondalo

Sondalo is a locality in the Upper Valtellina, situatedin a territory graced with pinewoods, included within the Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio. The geographic location renders its climate particularly healthy and, therefore, makes it a highly appreciated tourist location; the presence of the Ospedale Climatico Regionale di Bormio e Sondalo, an imposing complex, testifies to the specificquality of the location. The town, moreover, also conserves interesting monuments, such as the ParishChurch, dating from the XVII century, with outstanding frescoes inside; the old Church of S.Agnese, romanesque in style; or the Church of S. Marta, dating back to the XII century, and rennovatedon a number of occasions: the church is decorated, inside, with frescoesby Giovannino da Sondalo. Those who want to practice mountain sports will find,within the territory of Sondalo, various opportunities to do so, including hang-gliding, in theSolezzo-Paravico area, cross-country skiing, at Mondadizza, or alpine skiing, in Val di Rezzalo; finally, this valley is also an excellent locationfor excursions.
