Val Masino

MappaVal Masino

The Val Masino is located between the Valchiavenna, the Valmalenco and Switzerland. Formed following the quaternary glaciation, it is the place where the Masino Stream flows. It is the first Retic-shore valley of the Valtellina, in the orographic area of the Adda river. The highest peak is Mt Disgrazia, 3,678m high, very popular with hikers and climbers. Northwards you reach the hamlet Valle dei Bagni - already known in the 16th century for its spring waters – where it is possible to see the superb Valle dell’Oro. East of S. Martino is the beautiful Val di Mello, with its vertical granite faces appreciated by climbers and now a natural preserve. From there, climbers continue upwards to refuges located at over 2,000m and charming paths such as the Roma, Path, the Upper Way of the Val Masino. Houses, stables, chapels and small churches are a real open-air ethnographic museum. Also worth mentioning are the murals made by various artists outside several buildings, which tell the story and the characteristics of the valley.
